Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan (DYSPUHF Solan), located in Nauni, Solan, was founded on December 1st, 1985. DYSPUHF Solan was established with the aim of advancing education, research and extension education in the fields of horticulture, forestry and their related disciplines. The late Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar, the first Chief Minister and the creator of Himachal Pradesh realized the significance of horticulture and forestry for the development of the state's economy. This realization led to the establishment of DYSPUHF Solan. DYSPUHF Solan's roots can be traced back to the erstwhile Himachal Agricultural College in Solan, which was set up in 1962 and is affiliated with the Panjab University in Chandigarh. Following the formation of the Himachal Pradesh University in Shimla in 1970, it became one of the Agriculture campuses of the university. However, in 1978, when the Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya was established in Palampur, the campus became its Horticulture Complex. Finally, in 1985, DYSPUHF Solan was elevated to the status of a State University and became the sole university in the country dedicated to the teaching, research and extension of horticulture and forestry. DYSPUHF Solan is recognized by the UGC.
DYSPUHF Solan offers ample undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate courses. DYSPUHF Solan follows an online admission procedure and the form can be obtained from the college's website. For UG admission, candidates must pass HSC(10+2) from any board. And for PG admission, candidates must complete a bachelor's degree and for a Ph.D. degree, postgraduation is required.

DYSPUHF Solan is a farm university that prides itself on providing top-notch facilities to its students. DYSPUHF Solan has well-equipped laboratories and classrooms that come with modern instruments and teaching aids. DYSPUHF Solan has separate laboratories for conducting undergraduate practicals and postgraduate laboratories catering to the latest research. The experimental area provided by DYSPUHF Solan is vast. The main campus boasts an area of about 550 hectares, while the Regional Horticultural Research & Training Stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) provide a further 202 hectares. These areas are fitted with modern facilities. The DYSPUHF Solan library is named after Satya Nand Stokes, the visionary who introduced Delicious varieties of apples in Himachal Pradesh, sparking a horticulture revolution. The library is housed in a vast ventilated building that offers students the perfect environment to study. At present, the library has a stock of 42,769 books covering a vast array of subjects such as horticulture, forestry, and allied sciences. It also subscribes to 116 scientific journals. The library has access to all important databases on CD-ROM, including AGRIS, HORT-CD, TREE-CD, CAB-CD, Encyclopedia Britannica, and McGraw-Hill Multimedia Encyclopedia of Science & Technology. The campus boasts a spacious playground that offers cricket, volleyball, hockey, football, kabaddi, athletics, and basketball facilities. Apart from the outdoor facilities, DYSPUHF Solan also has a gymnasium complex that has equipment for indoor games such as volleyball, badminton, table tennis, boxing, basketball, and kabaddi. The gymnasium has two badminton courts, two TT tables and a kabaddi mat available for use. The gym facilities are of world-class standards. DYSPUHF Solan has eight well-equipped hostels, four for boys and four for girls. DYSPUHF Solan provides a mess, a health centre, and an ATM.
DYSPUHF Solan has established a placement cell to assist students with interviews and internships. The department offers several training programmes, seminars and workshops to equip the students with the necessary skills. Additionally, the institution provides industrial trips, where students acquire hands-on experience that is vital for their career development. Admission Procedure
Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan offers undergraduate degrees ( B.sc, B.Tech ) and M.sc, MBA, and M.Tech degrees with various specialization. Interested candidates can apply through their official website. To apply for their degree candidate must meet basic admission criteria. For their B.Sc, and B.Tech degree candidates must be completed higher secondary examinations in English, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/ Mathematics from a recognized Board with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
DYSPUHF Solan also offers M.SC, MBA, M.Tech, and Ph.D. and Diploma degrees with various specializations. For their Post graduate degree, candidates must qualify for an entrance examination Postgraduate Entrance Test (PGET) with valid marks. And for a Ph.D. degree candidate must qualify master's degree with 65% marks recognized by ICAR University or Institute. For their Diploma degree candidate must qualify secondary examination with valid marks.
