Previously known as Marathwada University, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (DBAMU, Aurangabad) is situated in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. It bears the name of the Indian jurist, politician, academic, and principal architect of the Indian Constitution Bharat Ratna "Babasaheb" Ambedkar. On August 23, 1958, Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister, formally opened DBAMU, Aurangabad. Babasaheb Ambedkar was principally responsible for the establishment of this university in order to cover the enormous gap in higher education resources in the western Vidarbha, Marathwada, and North Maharashtra regions. Five Departments of DBAMU, Aurangabad have received financial support from the University Grants Commission as part of the UGC-SAP support program.
