The Department of French, University of Calcutta, Kolkata (DF CU Kolkata), was established in 1939 and is located in the College Street Campus of the University. DF CU Kolkata is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and offers a variety of courses to students looking to pursue French language studies. DF CU Kolkata offers an advanced diploma level Pre-MA course, a postgraduate level Master of Arts (MA) course and a doctoral Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) course, all in French. Additionally, DF CU Kolkata follows an online admission process and recognises various scholarship schemes to financially aid students in their pursuit of higher education.

Admission Procedure
Department of French, University of Calcutta, Kolkata follows an online admission procedure. The eligibility criteria for the courses offered at DF CU Kolkata are as follows- for Pre-MA in French candidates require 45% marks in BA or equivalent from a recognised institution. For MA in French, candidates require BA Honours or a minimum of 45% in Pre-MA from a recognised University. For Ph.D in French, candidates require MA with 55% marks from a recognised university and 50% marks in the Entrance Examination of DF CU Kolkata.
