Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune (DIAT Pune) accredited by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Pune University recognized eight courses for the award of ME degree in 1980 and acquired the status of Deemed to be University in 2000.
DIAT Pune was situated to evolve as a research institute to develop indigenous contemporary defence technologies to incorporate Defence Industrial Base in India. The infrastructure of DIAT Pune has avid facilities from a Data Centre providing IT and internet facilities to accommodation for employees and a hostel for students to on-campus medical services, shops banks, etc. It has highly specialised classrooms and seminar halls and immersive research facilities. They also have specialised grounds for games and cultural activities.
DIAT Pune offers M.Tech and Ph.D. programs from all the departments with exclusive specialised subjects in the technology industry, which shall aid the defence mechanism in all aspects. It also offers a number of postgraduate diplomas and short-term online certificate courses to enhance the professional values of the people involved in technological services. To take the discipline further scholars are also viable to take up Post Doctoral fellowships or JRFs (Junior Research Fellows).
DIAT Pune also takes its valuable time to participate in and organise International conferences and workshops to occupy students with professional exposure and prepare them for placements. It also has a specialised center for training and placements. The faculties of each specialised department take care to strengthen collaboration with the Armed Forces, Academia, R&D Institutions, and Industry, which shall result in the generation of adequate financial resources for sustainable growth and development. The admission process is conducted online, which usually starts in the month of August annually.

Admission Procedure
Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune follows an online method of admission. Applicants to DIAT Pune are selected based on their merit and eligibility criteria. DIAT, Pune offers Post Graduate and Doctorate courses under the faculty of Engineering. Aspiring Post Graduate applicants to DIAT Pune must have secured Bachelors Degree from any recognized University with Science stream in respective subjects according to the concerned department. Aspiring Post Graduate applicants must appear for the Entrance examination conducted by the institute. Aspiring Ph.D. (Doctorate) applicants to DIAT Pune must have secured Masters Degree from any recognized university in respecitve subject according to the concerned department. Aspiring Ph.D. applicants must appear for the Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE) entrance exam. The candidates' selection is based on the rank or marks secured in the entrance examination.

Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune has its own Placement Cell for helping the students getting recruited in different organizations. It serves as a liaison between various businesses looking for exceptional young postgraduates in the fields of defence and related fields. For the students in each stream, the CTP at DIAT Pune provides orientation programmes, grooming workshops, and mock interview sessions. The Center puts together a variety of skill-based training and internship programmes for students to give them practical experience and expose them to the working world. With the necessary resources, CTP has a fully functional Training & Placement Cell that can manage campus placement activities. The Placement Cell of DIAT Pune often invites major recruiters for effective hiring of their students.
