The forerunner of COEP College of Engineering, Poona is Poona Engineering Class and Mechanical School, which was founded in July 1854 with the goal of "providing appropriate training to subordinate officers in the Public Works Department".
The name of the school was changed to "Poona Civil Engineering College" in 1911, and then to "College of Engineering, Poona" in 1912. It was first affiliated with the University of Bombay for a Licentiate in Civil Engineering degree, known as LCE, and later with the University of Pune. Civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering degree programs were established in 1908, 1912, and 1932, respectively. Since then, COEPTU Pune has continued to grow, adding new departments and wings every year.
COEPTU Pune was granted autonomy in 2003, allowing it to set its own curriculums and manage its own finances. COEPTU Pune is affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University. Currently, COEPTU Pune offers nine UG and twenty-four PG programs and has more than 3200 students enrolled in its various courses. COEPTU Pune aspires to instill in learners an entrepreneurial mindset and principles to improve institutional, industrial, and national partnerships for symbiotic relationships.

Admission Procedure
COEP Technological University, Pune conducts its admission procedure according to the guidelines of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The students interested in seeking admission at the esteemed College can apply through the university's admission department. The admissions for the undergraduate courses (B.Tech) are made according to the merits secured by the students in their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised board in the relevant subject discipline. The selection of the applicants for the postgraduate degree courses in Master of Technology (M.Tech) is made according to the merits secured by the applicants in their undergraduate courses in the relevant subject discipline from a recognised university.
