City College, Kolkata (CC) is a government undergraduate college affiliated with the University of Calcutta, West Bengal. CC Kolkata is a University Grants Commission (UGC)-recognised institution and one of the heritage institutions in Kolkata, West Bengal.
City College, Kolkata was founded in 1881 to establish a “high-class English institution” that would disseminate moral and liberal religious precepts to the young generation of the late 19th century. CC Kolkata is situated on a well-equipped campus housing state-of-the-art facilities such as well-ventilated classrooms, a spacious and well-stocked central library, various course-specific laboratories, sports facilities for indoor and outdoor games, medical provisions, and a canteen.
Courses and academic programmes offered by City College, Kolkata include B.Sc in nine specialisations, BA in seven specialisations, and two B Com courses. Admissions to CC Kolkata are conducted online via the official website of the college. The selection process is merit-based. CC Kolkata has several magazine and college publications such as the annual magazine “Sanchayan” and the Commemorative Volume for the 125th Anniversary “Smaranika”. The college’s student union annually organises its cultural fest “Sangri-la”. The NSS unit hosts several social outreach programmes such as cleanliness drives, socio-economic surveys, and health camps.
