Calcutta National Medical College (CNMC), Kolkata is a government medical college and hospital affiliated with the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS). CNMC Kolkata was instituted when the National Medical Institute and Calcutta Medical Insitute were amalgamated in 1948 to create the Calcutta National Medical Institute, later renamed Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital. It was inaugurated by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and headed by its founding principal, Dr. Sundari Mohan Das. The medical college was nationalised in 1967 and has been functioning under the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal since then. CNMC Kolkata is locally known as Chittaranjan Hospital and is recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

Calcutta National Medical College, Kolkata is situated on a well-equipped campus housing state-of-the-art facilities such as well-ventilated classrooms, spacious seminar halls, a well-stocked library, an auditorium, well-equipped laboratories, a football field, medical facilities, and hostel accommodation. There are five academic departments in CNMC Kolkata - Pre Clinical, Para Clinical, Clinical, Medical Education Unit, and Central Research Lab. Undergraduate Admission to CNMC Kolkata is conducted online and subject to the eligibility criteria of passing 10+2 examinations from a recognised board with PCBE subjects and a minimum of 50% marks. Candidates are admitted into MBBS programmes based on their marks and ranks secured in the NEET-UG entrance examination.

CNMC Kolkata is also the first medical institute in West Bengal to receive the Union Health Ministry’s LaQshya Certificate and is ranked as the best maternity care in the country. Besides its academic excellence, Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata also boasts enriching extra-curricular and cultural programmes and activities attended by students. CNMC Kolkata’s student union hosts the annual cultural fest “AGON”- the largest medical college fest in Eastern India. AGON offers several opportunities to its students to showcase their talents through a plethora of exciting activities such as inter-college sports tournaments, short-film competitions and cine-fests, music and dance contests, blood donation camps, seminars, and workshops.

Admission Procedure

Undergraduate applications for admission to Calcutta National Medical College Kolkata are submitted online through the official website of CNMC. Candidates for the MBBS program must have completed the CBSE-sponsored National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) exam and meet the minimum eligibility requirement of at least 50% in the HSC with PCBE.

CNMC Kolkata also offers a postgraduate (MD / MS)  degree programme and a super speciality degree (MCH / DM) with various specializations. To apply for their degree candidate must complete basic admission criteria. For their MD/MS degree candidate must qualify for an entrance examination National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-PG). And for their super speciality degree programme candidate must qualify for an entrance examination National Eligibility cum Entrance Test ( NEET-SS) with valid marks.
