Bishop Heber College (BHC), Tiruchirappalli was established in 1873 by the Tiruchirappalli - Thanjavur Diocese of the Church of South India. BHC Tiruchirappalli is a religious minority educational institution whose primary goal is to meet the higher educational needs of members of the Church of South India and other Christians, particularly by providing an educational environment consistent with Christian ideals.
However, BHC Tiruchirappalli admits students of all faiths and religions and strives to provide them with the best higher education possible. BHC Tiruchirappalli offers a total of 103 courses, among them 30 undergraduate (UG), 37 postgraduate (PG), 17 doctorate (PhD), 8 diploma (DIP), and 11 postgraduate diploma (PG DIP). Among the 30 undergraduate courses, the degrees that are available are: B.A (4 courses), BSW, B.Com (8 courses), B.Sc (11 courses), BCA, BBA (2 courses), and B.Voc (3 courses). The 8 diploma courses are in French, Advanced Medical Lab Technology, Child Focused Community Development, Bio Analytical Techniques, Analytical Techniques in Chemistry, Paper and Pulp Technology, Solar Energy Technology, and English Communication Skills. The digital section provides members access to a host of e-resources and has a micro-film facility and a Television and Multimedia room. Students are provided separate hostel accommodations, 5 for boys and 7 for girls, which come along with their mess and dining facilities. The Institute also has an international co-ed hostel. Promoting an active lifestyle for students, BHC Tiruchirappalli has provisions for several outdoor and indoor games, such as football, cricket (1 pitch and 4 nets), tennis, badminton (5 courts), ball badminton (2 courts), basketball (1 floodlit court), hockey, volleyball (3 courts, 1 floodlit), handball, netball, boxing, kabaddi, kho kho, table tennis and chess. Facilities for boxing and archery is also present at BHC Tiruchirappalli, along with an Indoor Games Hall. There are several specialised cutting-edge laboratories at BHC Tiruchirappalli. Regular theory sessions take place in spacious classrooms. The BHC Tiruchirappalli Campus is completely covered by Wi-Fi, and has a cafeteria, a Health Care Unit, and banking and ATM facilities within, along with auditoriums and seminar halls. Shuttle service is available from the college at affordable rates on routes to KK Nagar, BHEL, Srirangam, and other places.
