Birsa Institute of Technology (BIT), Sindri was originally established in Patna under the name College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in 1949. It was shifted to Sindri in November 1950, and was renamed first to Bihar Institute of Technology and then finally to Birsa Institute of Technology, Sindri, in 2000 after the partition of Bihar. At the time of its formation, BIT, Sindri was affiliated to Patna University, then to Ranchi University in 1960, Vinod Bhave University in 1992, and ultimately to Jharkhand University of Technology in 2000. BIT, Sindri sprawls over a 400-acre campus on the eastern bank of the Damodar river and is well connected by roads and railways.

The courses offered by BIT Sindri are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). BIT Sindri offers 10 undergraduate (UG) and 10 postgraduate (PG) courses. The UG courses are: B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Production Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mining Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Information Technology. The PG courses on offer are: M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Heat Power Engineering / Machine Design / Production Technology); Electrical Engineering (Power System / Control System); Metallurgical Engineering (Physical Metallurgy / Process Metallurgy); Chemical Engineering (Plant Design); and Civil Engineering (Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering / Structural Design). Birsa Institute of Technology Sindri, Dhanbad, strives to provide the best possible infrastructure to ensure the all-round development of the students. The College Library houses over 1,00,000 printed texts, which include textbooks, reference books, journals, etc. The state-of-the-art well-stocked rich E-library provides access to a host of digital resources including e-journals from IEEE, Springer Nature 3 Subject Collection, ASCE, ASME, Elsevier, and many more. Along with these resources, there are individual Departmental Libraries as well for the students to avail. The college possesses world-class amenities which include multimedia auditoriums, seminar rooms, well-equipped modern laboratories and a campus-wide network. The Institute has around 80 labs for different courses and specializations as well as 14 labs under the Centre of Excellence. There are hostel facilities available for students. BIT Sindri stresses on the importance of physical health and provides facilities for various sports and cultural activities on Campus. Birsa Institute of Technology Sindri thereby aims to provide a proactive and stimulating environment that is conducive to feeding the curious minds of the students and train them for an exciting professional and social life.

Admission Procedure

Admission to Birsa Institute of Technology, Sindri is done through the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination (JCECE) conducted by JCECE Board that is constituted by Govt of Jharkhand. BIT, Sindri follows a blend of online and offline methods for admission into courses under B.Tech. Candidates need to download the admission form from the official website of the BIT, Sindri and after filling up the details they must send the physical copies along with a demand draft and associated documents to apply for their candidature.
