In 1979, the Government of West Bengal established a Girls' College in Suri, the headquarters town of Bibhum District, with the intention of providing education to young girls. However, in 1987 the college was transformed into a co-educational degree college and was renamed Birbhum Mahavidyalaya, Birbhum (BM Birbhum). BM Birbhum is located in Baruipara, one of the oldest areas in Suri, and is surrounded by beautiful open land with a natural environment in the northeastern part of Suri. BM Birbhum is accredited by UGC and is affiliated with the University of Burdwan.
BM Birbhum offers only BA and BSc degrees. BM Birbhum follows an online admission procedure and the form can be obtained from the college's website. For UG admission, candidates must pass HSC(10+2) from any board.
