Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology (BIET), Birbhum was founded in 1999 as a non-profit organisation by the Indian Centre for Advancement of Research and Education (ICARE). BIET Birbhum emerged as Birbhum's pioneer Engineering Institute, located on 30 acres of expansive scenic Techno-Complex in Suri. BIET Birbhum is glad to have received aid from the West Bengal Government, Birbhum Zilla Parishad, West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL), and the M.P.L.A.D. scheme, as well as TEQIP II (MHRD and World Bank) for the development of infrastructure and the Campus, as well as the improvement of teaching and learning facilities.
BIET Birbhum offers 6 undergraduate (B.Tech) and 2 postgraduate (M.Tech) courses. The B.Tech courses are in Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Information Technology, and Mechanical Engineering; while the M.Tech courses are in Mechanical Engineering with specialisations in Heat Power Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering. BIET Birbhum is affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Technology (MAKAUT), and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
BIET Birbhum provides the best available infrastructure for the holistic development of students. The Central Library has over 40705 volumes of books under 4996 titles, daily subscriptions to 7 newspapers, and 57 national and international journals. The Library Reading Room has a seating capacity of 150. The Digital Library at BIET Birbhum provides members access to multiple e-journals and e-books, and also includes the NPTEL Phase 1 and Phase 2 courses. The students can also avail of a Book Bank and reprographics and printing services. The students at BIET Birbhum are accommodated in separate hostels for males and females. There are 5 hostels for boys with facilities for more than 1100 students, and the 3 girls' hostels can accommodate 300 students. The hostels of BIET Birbhum have affordable canteens and facilities for indoor games as well as social and cultural activities. BIET Birbhum also provides the infrastructure for various sports and hosts events like ATHCRAZE, which is the Annual Gala Sports Event, as well as other technical, academic social and cultural events.
There are several course-specific laboratories at BIET Birbhum that help the students with their practical knowledge. There is a Language Lab as well as a Central Computing Facility for the students to avail. Several state-of-the-art workshops like the Welding Workshop, Fitting Workshop, Lathe Workshop, Grinding Workshop, Milling Workshop, Shaping Workshop, Moulding Workshop, Concrete Technology Workshop, Forging Workshop and Carpentry Workshop are available inside the campus of BIET Birbhum.
BIET Birbhum has a Medical Unit headed by a medical officer along with other medical staff who are available round-the-clock. An ambulance facility is also available in cases of emergency. The multiple canteens and cafeterias at BIET Birbhum provide hygienic food at a subsidized rate and cater to both the students and staff members. The Campus is entirely Wi-Fi enabled. The spacious classrooms of BIET Birbhum are equipped with the latest PA systems, and separate tutorial rooms are available for hosting special classes. Model classrooms on Campus are fitted with LCD projectors. There is an auditorium as well as a seminar hall which can accommodate 180 individuals. BIET Birbhum also provides a banking facility and transportation through bus services from townships or district subdivisions to the College Campus.

Admission Procedure
Candidates should have passed 10+2 board examinations with a valid rank in Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE Mains) or West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations (WBJEE) in order to be eligible for admission to the undergraduate courses at Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology. The selection is done on the basis of merit. Students must apply through the online portal of BIET and register themselves. In the event of a student, who has applied to the BIET before the 10+2 results are declared, failing to meet the eligibility criteria, he/she should withdraw from the candidature. Direct admissions as per government guidelines are available.

The Training and Placement Cell of Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology is responsible for contacting organizations and inviting them for recruitment drives in the College. Some of the reputed companies that have recruited students through the placement drives include Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro, Vedanta, Bosch, Capgemini, Genpact, HCL, Infosys, etc.
Scholarships
Special Scholarship for 4 years B.Tech Students - 50% tution fee waiver for students securing upto 30,000 in WBJEE or 3,00,000 in JEE Mains in the general category with 60% marks in 10th and 10+2 board examinations. Other government and private scholarships are available at Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology.
