Bethune College (BC) is a very well-known women’s college located in the city of Kolkata. BC Kolkata holds a special place in the education history of the country because it was the very first women’s college in all of Asia.

Bethune College, Kolkata offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and certificate and diploma courses. At the undergraduate level, BC Kolkata offers Bachelor of Arts in Bengali, Botany, Economics, English, Hindi, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sanskrit and Women's Studies. They also offer Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, Statistics and Zoology. BC Kolkata is affiliated to the University of Calcutta and they are recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Started in 1879, Bethune College, Kolkata is committed to shaping the futures of students who pass out of the college, providing them with a holistic and comprehensive education, inculcating in them values, dedication and entrepreneurial and leadership skills. To support their students, BC Kolkata has a regularly updated library, which boasts of having a collection of 160 rare books; well-equipped labs and classrooms to facilitate learning, and a Wi-Fi enabled campus. Besides these, they also have indoor and outdoor sports facilities, a physical fitness room, a canteen serving hygienic and healthy meals. BC Kolkata also has a hostel in Karunamoyee Salt Lake, to cater to outstation candidates. Bethune college conducts its admissions through an online process, and students who have successfully cleared their 10+2 school leaving examinations are eligible to apply. Students also have access to a number of different scholarship options. These are available for meritorious or minority students who may not have the means to pay the full fees. They are awarded on need and merit basis.

Admission Procedure

Every year, the academic session of Bethune College begins in July with the odd semesters. The B.A./B.Sc degree programme includes B.Sc/B. Honours and General Elective courses. Only Honours students are admitted. Students who have passed Higher Secondary, ICSE, CBSE, or equivalent examinations from one of the University of Calcutta's accredited boards are eligible to apply. Vocational stream candidates are not eligible to apply. Students from other states 10+2 boards, both in India and abroad, are also eligible to apply. The admissions procedure takes place entirely online. Candidates must fill out forms online. A candidate may apply for up to four honours subjects. Application forms must be sent separately.

Bethune College, Kolkata also offers Post-Graduate  M.sc and M.A programs in various disciplines, Candidate must be completed graduated B.sc /B.A from a recognised board. Admission is based on merit basis.
