Basirhat College, North 24 Parganas (BC 24 PGS(North)) was established in 1947 by the Ichchamati river, with the vision of spreading higher education among the rural youth of the region.
Recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and affiliated to the West Bengal State University, BC 24 PGS(North) offers 36 undergraduate (UG) and 1 postgraduate (PG) course for students to pursue. The UG courses offer the degrees of Bachelor of Arts (B.A), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc), and Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com); while the PG course offers the degree of Master of Arts (M.A). Admission to BC 24 PGS(North) takes place via the College Admission Committee.

Basirhat College, North 24 PGNS has an admission procedure in place in which students must apply for the admission through the College Admission Committee for undergraduate programmes such as BA Honours and General with numerous specialisations, B.Sc Honours and General with numerous specialisations, and B.Com Honours with Accounting and Finance and MA in Bengali. The ultimate admission will be determined by the combined merits obtained by the applicants.
