B. Borooah College, Guwahati (BBC Guwahati), named after the prominent Assamese businessman Bholanath Borooah, was founded in 1943 during the period of World War II and the nationalistic struggle against foreign rule. Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi, the first Chief Minister of Assam and founder principal, served as the first president of BBC Guwahati governing body. In its early years, until the establishment of Gauhati University in 1948, BBC Guwahati was affiliated with Calcutta University. Today, BBC Guwahati is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and continues to provide quality education.
