Established on 20th July 1968, Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa (APSU Rewa) was founded as a state university in Madhya Pradesh. APSU Rewa was named after the distinguished freedom fighter and national leader Capt. Awadhesh Pratap Singh, who was the first Prime Minister of Vindhya Pradesh. In February 1972, APSU Rewa was given recognition by the UGC and was approved by AICTE. APSU Rewa is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the All Commonwealth Association of Universities (ACAU). Set against the backdrop of the Vindhya mountains, the University Campus is picturesque and tranquil, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The library also offers digital resources, such as online journals, e-books, and other digital resources. The University Stadium is centrally located in the city. It has facilities for Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball, Kho Kho, Kabbadi, and Wrestling. There is a football ground, Gymnasium Hall & Yoga Hall on the Main Campus. APSU Rewa has an auditorium on the campus in the name of its founder Vice Chancellor Pt. Shambhu Nath Shukla. It has a seating capacity of more than 500 and is equipped with a PA system and other audio-visual equipment. APSU Rewa has a bank facility on campus, making it easy for students to access their bank accounts and manage their finances. APSU Rewa has a well-equipped medical facility, which provides medical assistance to the students and staff of the university. APSU Rewa has a well-equipped hostel facility, which provides comfortable accommodation to the students.
