Founded in 1970 by Most Rev. Dr. Justin Diraviam, the Archbishop of Madurai Diocese, Arul Anandar College, Madurai (AAC Madurai) is a Christian minority institution operated by the Jesuits of Madurai Province. AAC Madurai is committed to the total transformation of society by educating marginalized sections of society, with a mission inspired by Arul Anandar (St. John De Britto), a Portuguese Jesuit Missionary and Martyr who championed the values of justice, love, and service. Situated in Karumathur- a backward village, in the Usilampatti Taluk of Madurai district, Tamil Nadu- AAC Madurai, the co-educational institution is affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University and recognized as a grant-in-aid institution under 2(f) and 12(B) sections. Notably, AAC Madurai became the youngest college in Tamil Nadu to gain autonomy in 1987. Spread over 44 acres, AAC Madurai boasts a delightful landscape with sufficient infrastructure, and green cover with native trees, and shades. Previously, AAC Madurai was an all-male institution until 2001 when it opened its doors to women to promote gender equity and empower women in the region, which had been affected by female infanticide.
AAC Madurai offers undergraduate courses such as B.A., B.Sc, BBA, and B.Com programs. At the postgraduate level, AAC Madurai offers M.A., M.Com, M.Sc, and MCA programs in different specializations.
The faculty at AAC Madurai is renowned for its wealth of knowledge, expertise, and a wide range of academic and managerial abilities. Most of the faculty members hold doctorates in their fields, and the remainder are currently engaged in research projects. A number of AAC Madurai professors serve as knowledgeable consultants and advisors to organizations, businesses, research centers, and departments. Numerous research papers and articles written by faculty members have been published in reputable national and international journals and magazines.
AAC Madurai boasts 73 classrooms that are all equipped with modern ICT facilities, providing students with access to the latest technology to aid their learning. Additionally, there are ten seminar halls across the campus that are also equipped with ICT facilities, which allow for interactive and engaging presentations. AAC Madurai has equipped sixteen department labs with all the necessary equipment and technology needed by students. AAC Madurai library covers an impressive 11,040 sq ft area, providing a vast collection of study materials consisting of 62,555 books and 117 journals and magazines. The library has a stack room, reference section, journal section, reading hall, and internet and browsing centers to ensure the needs of all students are being met. The library is entirely automated with iNET 5.0 web-based software, which makes accessing resources very easy and time-efficient. AAC Madurai has five spacious halls, two audiovisual halls, and a philosophy seminar hall, along with a yoga and meditation center aimed at enhancing student well-being. A multi-purpose indoor stadium equipped with audiovisual aids, lighting facilities, and necessary equipment and properties for conducting various cultural events. Furthermore, two open auditoriums on the campus and another one on the hostel premises are used for mega-cultural programs. AAC Madurai also provides an extensive ground facility with Fr. Prince Ground and Fr. Monteau Playground having various sports amenities such as basketball, volleyball, football, hockey, Kho-Kho, handball, Kabaddi, and Athletics Tracks, along with indoor games facilities. Additionally, a hostel for boys and girls and a sports hostel for 100 students, two canteens, a bank, and a health center cater to the student's physical and mental health needs.
AAC Madurai provides the Placement Cell and periodically offers technical and soft skill training to final-year undergraduate and graduate students. It makes "ON-Campus" and "Off-Campus Interviews" possible. The admission process will be completed online. The applicant must meet the requirements for eligibility set forth by Madurai Kamaraj University. The candidate's academic performance and success in extracurricular activities are taken into consideration when granting admission.

10+2 or a test of an equivalent level must have been passed by the applicant to be admitted for the undergraduate programme and an applicant must possess the necessary Bachelor's Degree to be admitted to a postgraduate programme. Before being provisionally selected, postgraduate candidates are required to pass a written exam and an interview.
