In the year 2002, Amritsar Group of Colleges, Amritsar (AGC Amritsar), a self-financed and private college, was founded in the province of Punjab. AGC Amritsar is an autonomous institution funded by the Amritsar International Foundation Trust. AGC Amritsar is connected with the I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University in Kapurthala and the Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training in Chandigarh, and as of the academic year 2014–15, the UGC has awarded AGC Amritsar the coveted Autonomous status. University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) have given their approval to AGC Amritsar.

The Training & Placement Cell organizes Pre-Placement Training classes to prepare the students for the workforce in addition to creating placement chances. AGC Amritsar provides AGC NEST scholarships to meritorious students. Students from engineering and science fields need to give the entrance exam to qualify for the scholarship.
