Established in August 2008 as a tribute to Sri A.K. Gopalan, a renowned politician, orator, and Parliamentarian in Indian history, A.K.G Memorial Co-Operative College of Nursing, Kannur (AKGMCOCN Kannur), a unit of Kannur Co-operative Hospital Society Ltd. No. C-834 is now one of the most respected nursing colleges in India. Since December 2010, AKGMCOCN Kannur has been operating from its new building in Mavilayi, the native place of Sri AKG. Mavilayi is an idyllic hilly area, 10km west of Kannur, away from the hustle and bustle and pollution of the city. Affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences and approved by the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council and Indian Nursing Council, AKGMCOCN Kannur is a lasting legacy of Sri A.K. Gopalan's efforts to improve the lives of the underprivileged.

The AKGMCOCN Kannur library is well-stocked with over 3000 books, magazines, and national and international journals, including e-journals. AKGMCOCN Kannur also has a mini-conference hall for official meetings and a 300-seater auditorium. AKGMCOCN Kannur also provides hostel and transport facilities.
