Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, Kolkata (APCCK), is a state and central government-funded college situated in New Barrackpore, Kolkata. Initially named “New Barrackpore College”, the institution was established on August 16, 1960 by the founder secretary, the Late Haripada Biswas, under the Dispersal Scheme with the State and Central Governments jointly participating in its inception.

APCCK is named after the eponymous Acharya Prafulla Chandra- a visionary educationist who inspired with his advocacy of “basic” and “utility” education, women empowerment, and channelisation of youth entrepreneurial potential in indigenous industry development. The motto of APCCK is “Service, Knowledge, Sacrifice”. APCCK boasts highly qualified and experienced faculty members ensuring a high standard of education. The college offers degree courses over several subject departments including 24 honours degree courses, 2 general courses, two major and vocational courses, eight postgraduate courses, professional courses such as B.B.A., and six distance learning programmes. The courses are updated to incorporate modern subjects alongside maintaining traditional learning. All admissions into Acharya Prafulla Chandra College’s academic programmes are conducted based on the academic merit of applicants.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) department of APCCK organises several outreach programmes and camps to incorporate the local communities with the college students and events. APCCK also comprises a placement and career-counselling cell that oversees and organises student internships, vocational programmes, grooming sessions, career counselling, placement camps and recruitment opportunities to ensure its students are recruited by reputed organisations visiting their campus placement programmes.

The professors of Acharya Prafulla Chandra College also manage the “Student’s Benevolent Fund” to offer financial aid to candidates through scholarships and fee remissions via the college fund. The Student Union additionally offers the "Medhabritti Prakalpa" Merit Scholarship Scheme for financially-struggling meritorious students. APCCK recognises the importance of extra-curricular activities alongside academics and offers several cultural programmes, sports competitions, cultural and festival celebrations, and social initiatives organised by the Students Union.

Acharya Prafulla Chandra College campus spans over 7-8 acres in sub-urban Kolkata with proximity to railway stations, offering commuting convenience for students. The CCTV-equipped college is equipped with state-of-the-art academic and extracurricular facilities, including the three-storied Main Building and Vocational & Technological Block, a spacious auditorium-cum-gymnasium, sports facilities for badminton, basketball, and volleyball, table tennis, and indoor games, a cafeteria, and laboratories. APCCK also oversees environmental and green standards by making provisions to install solar panels.

Admission Procedure

Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, Kolkata (APCCK), (co-ed) offers undergraduate courses in B.Sc(Hons), B.Sc, B.A(Hons), B.A, and BBA in a number of specializations. Candidates must have completed their 10+2 examination in the relevant subjects or stream from a recognized board in order to be considered for undergraduate programmes. All UG course selections are merit-based. For the application process, interested candidates must visit the official website.

APCC Kolkata also offers Post Graduate (MA / M.SC) degree programs in various specializations. Interested candidates can apply through their official website. To apply for their degree candidate must complete a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline. Final admission is based on merit basis.

Placements

Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, Kolkata (APCCK), has made an attempt to create an organised framework for its students' career advice and placement. Different departments and the Counselling and Placement Cell, in collaboration with various other organisations, occasionally organise lectures and counselling sessions for students. Despite the fact that APCCK has a Career and Placement Committee, it should be noted that such degree colleges have very little opportunity for campus placements.



Scholarships

A "Student's Benevolent Fund" managed by the professors of Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, Kolkata (APCCK), provides financial assistance to needy students in the form of scholarships. At least 15% of the APCCK's total students are offered concessions in the form of partial remission of fees from the college fund. The Students' Union has established the "Medhabritti Prakalpa" Merit Scholarship Scheme for deserving but financially struggling students. Students with the highest marks in their second and third year classes in both the B.A. and B.Sc. courses at APCCK will receive a scholarship equivalent to six months of college tuition.
