Acharya Brojendra Nath Seal College (ABNSC), Cooch Behar previously known as Victoria College, was established in 1888 by Maharaja Nripendra Narayan. Post-independence, the Government of West Bengal took up the responsibility of running the College, which was renamed Acharya Brojendra Nath Seal College, Cooch Behar after the first Indian Principal of the Institution.
The college was first affiliated with the University of Calcutta and is currently under the Cooch Behar Panchanan Barma University. Acharya Brojendra Nath Seal College, Cooch Behar is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The college offers 14 undergraduate (UG) and 4 postgraduate (PG) courses in Arts and Science streams. The UG courses offered by Acharya Brojendra Nath Seal College, Cooch Behar are B.A.(Hons) in Bengali, English, Sanskrit, History, Geography, Political Science, Philosophy, and Economics; and B.A.(Gen); B.Sc.(Hons) in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, and Physiology; and B.Sc.(Gen). The PG courses were started after 2004 and are M.A. in Bengali, Sanskrit, and History; M.Sc. in Zoology. Students must pass the 10+2 level examination or equivalent from a recognised board in order to qualify for admission to the undergraduate courses at the college. Admission to the postgraduate courses requires qualifying for the undergraduate degree in the same subject. Acharya Brojendra Nath Seal College, Cooch Behar recognises the importance of the physical fitness of the students and has provisions for football and cricket apart from a playground of about 10,000 square meters. The college also has dedicated classrooms as well as specialised laboratories to educate the students.
Acharya Brojendra Nath Seal College, Cooch Behar also provides a Computer Literary Cell, and an entry-level coaching centre for WBCS, SSC, NET and SET under the sponsorship of UGC, PG Entrance Guidance Centre, etc. The Health Care Centre provides bi-weekly routine checkups for students, who are also provided with a Health Insurance Scheme for their whole tenure.
