A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences (ABSMIDS), established in the year 1985, is one of the 5 best dental colleges in the country. ABSMIDS is recognized by the Dental Council of India and the Malaysian Dental Council. It is an affiliate of Okayama University Dental School, Japan and an academic mentor to Oman Dental College Sultanate of Oman. They offer both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as certificate, doctoral and fellowship programmes. Every year they admit a 100 students into their Bachelor of Dental Surgery Course – the only undergraduate program they offer. The degree takes 5 years to complete, which includes a year long internship for hands on practice.
A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences has been given recognition by the Dental Council of India. They are affiliated to the NITTE (Deemed to be University), Karnataka. A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences is also recognised by and a collaborator with a number of international dental colleges and councils, namely, the Malaysian Dental Council, Okayama University Dental School in Japan, Oman Dental College in the Sultanate of Oman, Smile Train Organization from USA and Cleft Children International in Switzerland. Admission to the A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences’ BDS programme is based on the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) UG exam.

Admission Procedure
A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences offers undergraduate course like Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). The eligibility criteria for getting admission to this course is - Pass in 10+2, with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry Biology and English. The candidate should have completed 17 years of age as of 31st December in the year of admission. In addition to the basic eligibility criteria, students seeking admission to the BDS program are required to qualify in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET-UG) which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) generally in May, each year. The responsibility of the NTA is limited to the conduct of the Entrance Test, declaration of results and providing the All India Rank to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), New Delhi for counselling of 100% of seats in Deemed Universities. Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Foreign Nationals are eligible to appear for NEET-UG. NEET qualification is a pre-requisite for admission to BDS. Application forms for NEET-UG can be submitted online through the official website. Students are advised to carefully read the Information Bulletin and follow the given instructions while keeping the required documents ready, before submission of the form.
For the Postgraduate degree programme of Master of Dental Surgery (MDS), applicants are required to be registered with any State Dental Council and hold a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from a recognized dental college. And candidates must clear NEET-MDS (Master of Dental Surgery) as a requirement for admission. The final admission is based on the merits secured by the candidates.
Faculty
The faculty members of A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences are highly qualified, experienced and skilled. They have a total of 129 teaching staff, of which 45 are professors, 25 readers, 38 lecturers and 21 tutors. The faculty provide support to learners with diverse needs through a mentorship program. Students are also encouraged to take up short-term research projects. E-Learning resources are provided to augment self-directed learning.
Placements
A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences offers a compulsory internship for the BDS course to give them the required exposure to clinical training and community-based training and creates opportunities for students by conducting placement drives. A total of 61 students were placed, and some also joined for higher studies in the previous years.
