Guwahati, April 24: Guwahati gets its first e-grocery platform, Dubori - an Android app with which one can order groceries and organic farm produce and get them delivered to their doorstep.
An Assam team of five developers registered with a Chennai-based organisation, Symeze Technologies Pvt Ltd, launched the app for Android in Google Play Store last March and has exceeded 100 downloads.
"Our aim was to link organic farmers and customers through this application. Often, local organic produce do not get the desired price as most of the market is dominated by non-organic produce. On the other hand, there is a section of customers who opt for organic produce, even by paying some extra money. We intended to be the bridge connecting them," Raja Aslam Khan, director of the app, told The Telegraph here today.
"Another problem with our organic farmers is that their produce is more perishable than the fertiliser and preservative-used farm products. That is why their costs are high as they have to cover the cost of the produce which gets perished. But with Dubori, they will have a definite target group and an estimate of the demands of their produce. This will help bring down wastage and the price of the produce," Khan said.
On quality of the produce, Khan said, "We get the fruits and vegetables directly from certified organic farmers. These farmers are trained by us to follow scientific and certified organic farming methodologies. We ensure that the items which we sell are of high quality and pesticide-free."
The app has four sections - fruits and vegetables, grocery, dairy-meat and others.
"In the fruits and vegetables section, we stock both organic and non-organic items. Under the non-organic items, we mean natural. Besides that, we have organic groceries too," Khan said.
As of now, the service is available in a limited area in Guwahati. "We have just started to deliver to the main parts of the city and not the outskirts. But soon we will be delivering to rest of Kamrup (metro) district. We have not initiated the card payment yet and the minimum order value is Rs 500. But these are issues we will be addressing in the coming days," Khan said.
On the name of the app, Khan said, "Dubori means grass sapling in Assamese. It is organic and in many Hindu rituals, it is considered pure and generates prosperity. That's why I have chosen this name so that I can also provide fresh produce to customers and in that attempt, help farmers to prosper."
