Bhubaneswar: The Toshali National Crafts Mela is witnessing huge footfall at Janata Maidan here.
Multifarious products made of wood, cane, bamboo, jute, terracotta and the like are on sale at the fair. Clay and metal showpieces and hangings for the door and walls are also available. The products from the state are contemporary in design and looks. The handcrafted terracotta items are one of the most sought after ones here.
Various weavers, handloom clusters and silk co-operative societies have showcased their designs.
"It is a wonderful feeling to collect rare weaves from the handloom expos. It's glad to see various apparels, particularly silk saris, showcased under one roof," said a visitor.
The kiosks are laden with handblock print saris, Baluchuri saris, Karnataka silk saris, Chanderi silk, Banarasi jamdani and kota silk among others.
Handloom styles from across the country such as pochampalli silks of Andhra Pradesh, muga silk collections from Assam, Madhubani of Bihar, tribal work and kosa silk of Chhattisgarh, pathani and puna saris of Maharashtra, bomkai and Sambalpuri saris of Odisha and kosa silk of Jharkhand are also gathering momentum.
"During New Year, one needs to give gifts to a number of people. The products available here are reasonable and have a lot f variety," said Monalisa Jena, an IT professional.
