Cuttack, Aug. 20: A local court today sent Satyam Sekhar Raula alias Bubu, adopted son of self-styled spiritual leader Sarathi baba in police remand for three days.

The crime branch had nabbed him from a hotel in Borivali in Mumbai on Tuesday night.

The controversial guru is accused of running a business empire in his name. Satyam has been accused criminal conspiracy and forgery.

Sources said that the crime branch was on the lookout for three to four persons who had helped Satyam flee the state.

A special three-member team of the crime branch is probing into the financial transactions, particularly the alleged investments made by Satyam and Sarathi. The team is focusing on areas relating to generation and diversion of funds through the Satyam Charitable Trust, which Sarathi had set up.

Satyam, who was pursuing his Plus III from Kendrapara, handled a bulk of the bank accounts in his father's name as well as that of the trust.

The spiritual leader is also suspected to have invested money in Odia movies through the Srimad Sarathi Productions and in the production of music albums to promote himself. Several renowned singers had rendered their voices to these albums. Satyam was the link between Sarathi and the celebrities, police sources said.

The investigating agency is planning to move court to interrogate the father-son duo together .#Official sources said that the team, which had gone to Hyderabad to collect information about Sarathi's visit to the city along with a girl, has found enough evidence that contradicts the spiritual leaders claim of never having visited the posh hotel on July 3.

The team has reportedly procured hotel's CCTV visuals that show Sarathi with the woman, a medico student. The team will return to Odisha on Friday, sources said.

Fresh complaint

A woman today lodged a complaint with the crime branch that she had been physically tortured by Sarathi baba for nearly six years.

Mamata Swain, who hails from Kendrapara district, alleged that she and her mother had visited the baba's ashram at Barimula in 2005. They had also given him cash worth Rs 1.5 lakh and some gold ornaments hoping that the baba would arrange a groom for her.

But while baba failed to find a groom for her, Mamata and her mother were subjected to physical torture during their stay in the ashram. She alleged that in 2014 the self-styled baba even tried to molest her.

However, they had preferred to keep quiet so far fearing threat to their life.
