Bhubaneswar, Nov. 6: Two motorcycle-borne goons allegedly snatched Rs 15 lakh in cash from the manager of a real estate firm in Laxmi Sagar this afternoon.
The incident took place when the victim, Deepak Agrawal, was coming out of the bank after withdrawing the cash.
Eyewitnesses said it was around 3.20pm and Agrawal was about to cross the road divider.
"Two bike-borne youths stopped and snatched the cash bag. The victim screamed for help, but by the time we reached the spot, they sped away towards Kalpana Square," said an eyewitness.
Further investigation revealed that the builder used to transport big amount of cash frequently.
"As his office is located less than 50 metres away from the bank, he used to walk to the bank from his office," said a local shopkeeper.
Police suspected the involvement of a gang from outside Bhubaneswar.
"In most of the recent cases, we have found goons using arms during cash loot. But today's incident is different as the criminals have not tried to trick the victim," said a police official.
Deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi said investigation was on.
"We are examining the footage of a closed circuit television camera installed outside the bank. We are also trying to ascertain the involvement of veteran criminals in the case," said Bhoi.
