Cuttack, Nov. 11: The open-air amphitheatre was inaugurated today at the Ravenshaw University here. The amphitheatre, which has been part of the university since 1919, was in a dilapidated condition and has been renovated at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore.

Rajya Sabha member, Pyari Mohan Mohapatra inaugurated the open-air venue as part of the ongoing commemoration week celebrations at the premier educational institute in the city. “The amphitheatre will do a world of good to students who can display their talent and art regularly,” said Mohapatra.

The capacity of the amphitheatre has been increased to accommodate 1,500 persons after the Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (Idco) renovated it. Although, the police housing corporation had earlier taken up the project but handed it over to Idco. University officials said the renovation work was completed within a year. Vice-chancellor Devdas Chhotray said chief minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to inaugurate the Kanika Library on the campus, which has also been renovated.
