Balasore, May 28: Balasore police have arrested a woman and her brother-in-law for killing her husband, Bhagaban Pradhan.

The woman was the prime conspirator behind the crime committed on Saturday night over an illicit relationship with her brother-in-law. The accused duo, Pankajini Pradhan, 40, and Lambodhar Giri, 48, have been produced before court today.

Pankajini and her other relatives took Bhagaban, 48, a resident of Agargohira village in the Rupsa police station limits, to headquarters hospital in the early hours on Sunday. He was bleeding profusely from head, neck and ears. The hospital authorities declared him brought dead.

Pankajini had stated that though she slept beside her husband on one bed, she had no idea how the things occurred. But, the police had strong suspicion over the deceased’s wife.

The police said Pankajini had extramarital relationship with her brother-in-law (elder sister’s husband) Lambodar, a Manikpur resident of Mayurbhanj. He was working in the health department in Mayurbhanj. Despite warning by Bhagaban, the relationship between them went unabated. It intensified when Bhagaban, a mason, absconded from his village for a long time in 2012 after he had been entangled in a criminal case.

On Saturday night, the deceased found his wife in a compromising position with Lambodar. When he confronted them, Lambodhar hit Bhagaban with a heavy wooden log on his head.

He then fled from there on his bike to his native village leaving Bhagaban bleeding profusely.
