Bhubaneswar, Sept. 19: Maoists killed a man and his son at Lacchmani village in Laxmipur, about 70km from the district headquarters of Koraput last night. The victims have been identified as Kapur Khora and his son Disho Khora, both traders.
“Around 20 Maoists reached the village around 7.30pm yesterday. Later, they had asked villagers to come out of their houses and held a meeting. Later, we were told to vacate the place. But they kept the father-son duo with them and later killed them,” Jitendra Khar, a local resident, said.
Police sources said the rebels held a “praja court” (people’s court) where they brought a series of charges against both the victims. They said the duo had exploited villagers by becoming a contractor and selling liquor. They also alleged that they had acted police informers. Before leaving the place, they had also left some leaflets in the spot. The Maoists’ Koraput- Srikakulam division has taken responsibility for the killings.
