Paradip, Nov. 2: Theatre lovers loved the Odia adaptation of the Shakespearean classic Macbeth, staged here at Jayadev Sadan auditorium, despite the play's complicated plot.
"The scene in which dim lights on the trees cast a shadow on Macbeth while he stood surrounded by soldiers was the play's best moment. The play was successful because the actors did an outstanding job. The delivery of the dialogues and the background music were great," said theatre lover Dipti Prakash Patnaik.
Translated and directed by Ramakant Mishra, the classic play by William Shakespeare, was staged by Think Foundation and Hrudaya of Bhubaneswar and socio-cultural organisation CANMASS from Paradip.
"We have tried our hand at conducting national theatre festivals and children's theatre festival in Paradip over the past few years with a fair degree of success. We had made up our minds to stage Shakespearean dramas and theatre enthusiasts loved the Odia adaptation of Macbeth. It has given us immense satisfaction as our experiment has been successful," said secretary of CANMASS Sriman Mishra, who also acted in the play.
The classic drama still holds relevance in the present day. The political scenario today is no different from what Shakespeare had envisioned centuries ago, said a member of the audience.
"The play's script was simplified for the audience," said litterateur Aparna Mohanty.
"The best part about Shakespearean plays is that they are still relevant; they will never lose their significance with time. The translated version of Macbeth retained the rich poetry of the original," Mohanty added.
