Jajpur: Two persons posing as buyers looted two shopkeepers and fled with Rs 50,000 offering them tea laced with drug in the district on Wednesday.
Two separate police complaints have been filed. In his FIR with Kuakhia police, Jitesh Pradhan said two youths came to his mutton shop at Suansahi and said they would buy 40kg of meat.
"They became friendly with the owners and offered tea to them. When the owners and two workers lost consciousness, they took away Rs 20,000 in cash," said Kuakhia police station inspector-in-charge Asish Kumar Sahu.
The goons had brought the tea in a thermos with them.
In the second incident, a bike-borne duo looted Rs 30,000 in cash from a dress store in the town on Wednesday. They reached Avaya Nrusingha dress store at Jajpur town posing as buyers. They asked owner, Sania Behera, for best price as they would purchase in bulk.
"The youths became friendly with the shop owner and later offered tea to him and his lone worker. They looted the cash from his counter after both became unconscious," said sub-divisional police officer Prasant Kumar Mallaha.
