Bhubaneswar: Admission into Plus Two courses in the state began on Monday.

Students, selected according to the first cut-off list published by the school and mass education department, can take admission at their preferred colleges.

In the first phase, a total of 3,41,927 students have been selected in the first cut-off list for admissions into arts, commerce, science, Sanskrit streams and vocational education. The admission process on basis of the first cut-off list will continue till Thursday, whereas the second cut-off list will be declared on July 10. Admission in the second phase will be conducted on July 11 and 12. Classes are scheduled to begin from July 24.

Students, who did not carry original migration certificates, were on Monday denied admission at a few colleges in the city. They have been asked to submit the original document by Thursday.

Most of these students belong to the Central Board of Secondary Education. The board's regional officer in Bhubaneswar T. Mate said: "We have kept provision to provide the certificates to the students at the earliest, so whoever is asking for it we are giving it immediately." Principals of many institutes say they have been asked by the state government to strictly adhere to the rules and provide admission only to those with proper documents.

"Last year, we had given admission to many without certificates. But till now, they have not submitted their documents. Therefore, we are adhering to the rules strictly this year," said the principal of a popular college in the city.

Students are having a tough time. "I have come all the way from Jamshedpur to take admission, but had to face a tough time. Now, I have to arrange for the certificates anyhow," said Sulagna Mishra, a student.
