
Grandparents’ Day
The DPS Kalinga celebrated Grandparents Day with a dash of Christmas flavour. The tiny tots of nursery put up an impressive performance as they danced to the tunes of various Chirstmas songs. The students were trained to greet their grandparents’ and showcased their talents on a common platform. The grandparents were overwhelmed to witness the programme and shared their feelings on the occasion. The teachers spoke on how moral and family values were instilled through such value-based programmes.
Exhibition
The DAV Public School, Unit-VIII, organised an exhibition named Innovision, in which the students displayed their creative, scientific and aesthetic talents through projects and working models with a new vision and dimension. OUAT vice-chancellor Surendranath Pasupalak inaugurated the event. Some of the projects displayed were on solar energy, global understanding, bio gas plant, waste management, eco-cooler automatic noise and auto traffic control machine, Rasberry PI (a credit-card sized computer that enables people of all ages to explore computing), Avivus Boculli (the machine for the blind), moral and physical education, yoga and so on. More than 200 models were displayed. The students displayed the Year of Pulses well. Guests, judges and visitors appreciated the unique and holistic experience of embracing the analytical, innovative and creative ideas of the students. Principal Bhagyabati Nayak encouraged the students for their vision, enthusiasm and skills.
Star gazers
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday felicitated 20 winners of the 10th edition of Young Astronomer Talent Search Programme-2016-17, in the grand finale function organised by Pathani Samanta Planetarium on the occasion of the birth anniversary of legendary astronomer Pathani Samanta. The winners will be taken for an exposure visit to one of the facilities of Isro in 2017. “This event has been successful in encouraging budding talents of our state in the field of space science. It is an opportunity for the students of rural and remote areas to exhibit their talents in astronomy. I hope this endeavour will be successful in helping our young students to become space scientists in future.” said Naveen. The 10th edition saw participation from nearly 34,000 students from over 300 schools, spread over 27 districts of the state in the essay and quiz competitions.
20-20 cricket
A friendly 20-20 cricket match, was played between parents and teachers of the DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, on campus-I. The parents’ team led by Ashok Jena won the match by 93 runs. Jitu Mohapatra and Anand Chandra Das were jointly declared men of the match. Similarly, on campus-II, an innovative project display “Imprints-2016” was organised where more than 1,200 students showcased their creative pursuits through various projects. School chairman M.M. Panda and principal K.C. Satapathy, among others, were present and encouraged the participants and parents.
Essay contest
The city-level winners of the Tata Building India School Essay Competition 2015-16 from the state were felicitated at the Idcol auditorium in Bhubaneswar by Kendra Sahitya Akademi Awardee Gourahari Das.
The theme for the essay competition was “Digital Technology for a Better India”. The essays submitted by the students encapsulated their refreshing views and ideas on the topic. The winning essays at the city level will be further judged by a prominent jury for national-level recognition and culminate with a proposed visit to the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi and an interaction with either the President or the Vice-President.
The winners from the state were shortlisted from a participation of over 1.6 lakh students from over 400 schools for the English and Odia editions. The English edition winners were from three cities, in which 90 English medium schools took part. The Odia edition winners were from 400 schools across 12 cities. Congratulating the winners, Das said: “This is an innovative and prestigious platform, which enables students to think and be original in their expressions. Teachers and parents should encourage children to read, interact and explore to boost their creativity and thinking.”
