Bhubaneswar, Feb. 4: Come New Year and everybody hunts for an attractive calendar. Keeping in mind the popularity of theme-based calendars, a few young Odia entrepreneurs have come up with their own ideas to create awareness on various issues.

A self-taught photographer, Manas Ranjan Ojha, came up with Concept 2013 with the intention of creating awareness on social issues. He has taken the route of fashion for the cause of social reformation.

For each month of the year, he has captured myriad emotions of his model to send across a different message. The January page emphasises on the Save the Tiger campaign and for this the model has been draped in leopard prints. Several other themes such as pollution, deforestation, and global warming, skewed sex ratio, fuel conservation among others have also found a place in the calendar.

“Each one of us can play a pivotal role towards bringing a positive change in society. This is my little effort to create social awareness,” said Manas.Another player in the arena is Diabetes Entertainment, which gave Odisha its first celebrity calendar in 2012. They will launch their 2013 calendar this week, which explores the different shades of women through fairy tales and legends.

“We wanted to celebrate the spirit of womanhood. In coming years, we will pick different themes such as temples or classical dance forms and also reproduce our celebrity calendar,” said Dayanidhi Dahima of Diabetes Entertainment.
