Jorhat, Sept. 12: Seeded players moved into the quarter-finals on the second day of the 5th Hiren Baruah Memorial All-Assam Ranking Table Tennis Tournament at the Kushal Konwar Indoor Stadium here today.

In the men’s category, top seed Kaushik Kumar Phukan (Dibrugarh), Mohammed Saidul Alam Ahmed (NF Railway), Salim Javed (Guwahati), Chinmoy Sarmah (Guwahati) and Plabon Sonowal won their respective pre-quarters.

Women’s top seed Moushana Gohain (Sivasagar), Sanjana Sarmah (NF Railway), Karishma Azmi (Sivasagar) and Kakali Lahkar (Guwahati) won their pre-quarterfinal matches.

The secretary of the Jorhat District Table Tennis Association, Nayan Jyoti Sarmah, who is the treasurer of ATTA, said, a total of 290 paddlers are participating in the tourney.

The finals will be held tomorrow.

The ranking tournament was formally declared open by Jorhat Municipal Board chairman Prasanta Bora yesterday.
