Guwahati, Nov. 22: Srimanta Sankar Academy defeated Modern English School by 21 runs in a league match of the Bud Cricket Club-organised Sitaram Agarwala Memorial Invitational Under-16 Inter-school Cricket Meet at Judges Field here today.
Put to bat, the Sankar batsmen were restricted to 140 in 34 overs. Tight bowling by the Modern bowlers did not allow the opposition batsmen to accelerate. Shreyom Deka hit a patient 36 (4x3) while Manshree Deori and Krishnav Kalita chipped in with 25 and 20 respectively. Jyotipam Das of Modern led the way with three scalps, conceding just 16 from five overs. Jitendra Deuri followed suit with a miserly spell of two for eight runs in five overs while Citrajyoti Bora bagged two wickets.
In reply, the Modern batsmen were bundled out for 119 in 29.3 overs. Debasish Saikia was the main contributor with 27 while Akash Sutradhar added a valuable 25 to the team’s total. Jyotipam Das featured with the bat as well, scoring 18 off 25 deliveries.
The Shankar bowlers, however, won the game for their team with Arijeet Baruah scalping three from seven overs while Abhilash Goswami and Pritam Das bagged two wickets each.
Shreyom was adjudged the Man of the Match for playing the sheetanchor’s role to perfection. Tomorrow, Don Bosco School will lock horns with South Point School in a crucial league match.
