River Rine sail ahead

Guwahati, Feb. 3: River Rine Club today registered a five-wicket win against Ankurjyoti Club in a Group B league match of the Spinner 10000 Jugal Kishore Newatia Bud Challenge cricket tournament at Nehru Stadium here.

Put to bat first, Ankurjyoti Club were bundled out for 98 in 31.2 overs and River Rine reached 102 for five in 21.2 overs.

Ambar Bhattacharya (26, 4x3) was the Ankurjyoti Club topscorer while Prahlad Gayan (16, 4x2) and Rohit Sharma (14, 4x2) were the only other notable scorers for the side.

Abir Chakraborty of River Rine hauled four wickets for 11 runs to be named Man of the Match.

Ranjit Changmai topscored for River Rine with a steady knock of 43 (4x6, 6x1) and Kaustav K Gogoi contributed a useful 26 (4x4). Pragyan Goswami (12, 4x1, 6x1) was another notable scorer for the side.

Binay Raut and Ambar Bhattacharya of Ankurjyoti took two wickets each, giving away 23 and 27 runs respectively.

Raju Kalita picked up the only other wicket, conceding 20 runs.

Navarang Club stormed into the semi-finals yesterday as the toppers of group A, having won their second league match against Santipur AC by 22 runs.

Put to bat first, Navarang scored 206 for nine in the 40 overs. Santipur were restricted to 184 for nine in the 40 overs.

Sadiq Imran Chaudhury topscored for Navarang with an unbeaten 56 (4x7) while teammates Rakesh Goyal and Raj Hussain contributed 30 (4x4, 6x1) and 28 (4x4, 6x1) respectively.

Deepak Punia of Santipur notched up three wickets for 33 runs as teammates Biplab Saikia and Rajjakuddin Ahmed took two each conceding 25 and 41 runs respectively.

For Santipur, Jyotiradity Chetia scored 36 (4x3) and skipper Sajid Khan 35 (4x2, 6x1).

Biplab Saikia chipped in with 27 (4x4).

Sadiq Imran Chaudhury and Roshan Basfore took two wickets each for 34 and 36 respectively.

Sadiq Imran Chaudhury was named Man of the Match.

Chess: Fiderated player Rajib Dhar emerged the unbeaten champion with six points from seven rounds in the Guwahati Open prizemoney chess tournament, organised by Rajbari AC, that concluded on the club premises today.
