Guwahati: The Assam government has engaged RITES Ltd to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) of the proposed flyover at the Supermarket tri-junction in Dispur.
"The public works department has awarded the DPR preparation work of the Supermarket flyover to the central government enterprise at a cost of Rs 1.54 crore," a source said. He said the work of DPR preparation for the proposed flyover, connecting RP Road with RG Baruah Road, crossing over the existing flyover at Ganeshguri on GS Road, has been awarded to Arch Tech Consultancy Pvt Ltd at a cost of Rs 60 lakh.
"For the first time, two flyovers will crisscross in the city," he said about the one planned at Ganeshguri, which will take off from near Ganesh Mandir and end at Nursery point on RG Baruah Road.
"The state government has also decided to construct an automated multi-level car parking at Ganeshguri to ease traffic congestion and parking woes in Dispur and the adjoining areas," he added.
For the car parking, the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will appoint a consultant to prepare the DPR, he said.
"This will be the third such parking facility in the city. The automated multi-level car parking in front of Shraddhanjali Kanan was inaugurated in October last year, while the one under construction near Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH) at Panbazar is targeted for completion in March," the source said.
He said the feasibility study and DPR preparation for two bridges across the Brahmaputra - Panbazar to North Guwahati and Palashbari to Sualkuchi, which will have six and four lanes respectively - are under progress.
"These bridges will be constructed as part of a plan to expand Guwahati towards the north bank of the river," he said.
