Guwahati, Jan. 25: Having stripped Mukut Medhi of his powers as general secretary of the Assam Olympic Association (AOA), Dispur is mulling instituting an inquiry into his activities, considered to be “detrimental” to the 33rd National Games.
Sources said Dispur may showcause Medhi within a couple of days on various allegations of sabotage to the cause of the mega event and the inquiry may be handled by one of the ministers in the Gogoi cabinet.
Medhi welcomed the proposed move saying, “At least, I will get an opportunity to defend myself because the chief minister did not even consider questioning me about the truth of the allegations levelled against me before taking the drastic step last evening.”
Gogoi today told mediapersons that Medhi, one of the three signatories from Assam in the MoU with the Indian Olympic Association, would have to take permission even to be a spectator at the Games.
Medhi is the last of the MoU (signed on December 13, 2002 at Hyderabad) signatories to be sidelined.
Earlier, Dispur had sidelined the then sports minister Robin Bordoloi and then sports commissioner Mrinal Baruah from all aspects of the Games. Besides, two of the architects behind holding the National Games in Assam — A.K. Absar Hazarika and Subhash Basumatary — have also been sidelined.
Medhi, who has been appealing to the Ulfa to revoke the boycott call, said he would continue with his pursuance on his personal capacity and was not repentant of his actions.
