Premjit upsets seed, takes lead

Imphal, June 8: S. Premjit Singh upset top seed and defending champion Kh. Sanjoy Singh to chalk up five points in the 22nd Kh. Anou Singh Memorial State Open Chess Tournament at Kwakeithel Junior Boys School.

In the fifth round, defending champion Sanjoy Singh, deploying the Sicilian defence, tried all tricks but Premjit turned the tables, forcing Sanjoy to quit in 41 moves.

The win propelled Premjit Singh to sole lead.

The other table saw H. Jacky Singh managing a draw against Rk. Bhogen Singh.

Kh. Sanjoy Singh, Y. Dhanabir Singh, Th. Govind Luwang, O. Ningthem Singh, L. Ranjit Singh, A. Romeo Singh and N. Brojen Singh are in thethird spot with four points each.

Course

Manipur Chess Association will hold a basic foundation course for U-15 players from June 15 on the Manipur College campus and Kwakeithel Junior Boys School campus.
