Police seize Ajmal vehicles

Dhubri, April 9: Agomoni police of Dhubri district yesterday seized five vehicles used in AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal’s road show last week after the election model code of conduct cell noticed a violation of the model code.

These vehicles were not registered with the cell.

According official source, AIUDF obtained permission to use 18 cars but instead the party used 40 cars in the road show.

After noticing the violation of model code of conducts, Dhubri election officer Hitesh Deb Sarma lodge an FIR at Agomoni police station against the party mentioning the registration numbers of 20 vehicles, a source said.

“The police, in the mean time, seized five vehicles AS 17 D/2372, ML07A/5237, AS17A/2674, AS 17 D/7583 and AS 17B/2664 and brought them to Agomoni police station last night. They are looking for rest of the vehicles used in the road show which were obtained without intimation about them,” the source added.

The Dhubri election model code of conduct cell has sent to the returning officer a complaint by the BJP about a statement that Ajmal made during a news conference in Guwahati on March 22.

Dhubri BJP general secretary Prosenjit Dutta said the party came to know that a file dealing with Ajmal’s alleged statement was finally moved to the Dhubri returning officer.

“We are waiting to see action to be taken by the returning officer,” Dutta added.

The Dhubri district AIUDF also contemplating to lodge a formal complaint with the Dhubri nomination cell against Congress candidate Wazed Ali Choudhury for alleged anomalies in mentioning the name of his school.

“On two occasions, Wazed Ali Choudhury mentioned name of two different institutions in his nomination papers. In 2006, he mentioned that he had passed higher secondary examination from Dhubri Government Higher Secondary School while this time, he has mention in the nomination papers that he passed the same examination from B.N. College,” AIUDF legislator Jahan Uddin said.

The party would lodge a complaint against this with the cell, he added.
