Police unearth rebel deal

Meghalaya police have unearthed a ?covert deal? between the National Democratic Front of Boroland and the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council to operate together in parts of the state. Meghalaya DGP W.R. Marbaniang said on Monday that two NDFB rebels, arrested last Friday, had been assigned by the outfit to assist the HNLC in remobilising its activities in Meghalaya.

Rapists held

Kohima police have arrested Abdul Hussain and Abu Pakar for allegedly raping a seven-year-old. ?We are waiting for the medical report,? said SP Martin Pieny?.

Majuli bandh

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad has called an indefinite Majuli bandh from May 2 in protest against the Brahmaputra Board?s plan to begin an erosion protection project with the onset of the monsoon. It fears the work might get washed away.

Water funds

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 2092.37 lakh to Assam as grant-in-aid under the centrally-sponsored accelerated rural water supply programme of Rajiv Gandhi national drinking water mission.

Science meet

The Assam Science Society has begun organisational activities to launch the 13th National Children?s Science Congress in Assam.

Inauguration

Assam public health engineering minister Dinesh Prasad Goala inaugurated a Rs 44 lakh piped water supply scheme at Borarampur in Cachar district on Sunday.

DoNER aid

DoNER has identified six core sectors in the Northeast, roads, urban area development, trade, water resources management, energy and tourism infrastructure development, for externally aided projects.

Donation

Meghalaya police on Monday donated Rs 11,02,417 to the Prime Minister?s National Relief Fund for tsunami victims. The entire police force donated a day?s salary towards the fund. B.L. Buam, Meghalaya IGP, handed over the draft to officials at the Prime Minister?s Office.
