Funds for better amenities

A sum of Rs 54 crore has been earmarked by NF Railway for the next two years to improve passenger amenities such as extension of platforms and facilities for drinking water. At the 85th NF Railway Zonal Users? Consultative Committee meeting at Maligaon on Monday, general manager of NF Railway A.K. Sanwalka said a new mobile train radio communication system would be installed.

Tea workers

Around 1,000 activists of All Assam Tea Tribes Students Association were on Monday picked up from various parts of the state for trying to block national highways.

Central funds

The Centre released Rs 48,67,000 as the second instalment under the Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana for four districts of Arunachal during 2005-06. The four districts are Lohit, Dibang Valley, Upper Subansiri and West Siang.

Stork killed

A large stork was recovered by the Society for Ecological Balance and Pollution Eradication of Bilasipara, Dhubri, on Monday.

Karbi court

The Karbi customary law court building was inaugurated at Diphu by Khorsing Engti, chief executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, on Monday.

Power lines

Assam power minister Pradyut Bordoloi informed the state Assembly on Monday that steps were taken to replace the old power lines with new ones in Tinsukia district.

Financial aid

Financial assistance was distributed to 598 beneficiaries on Monday under the National Social Assistance Programme at Boro-Haflong under Jatinga constituency of North Cachar Hills district.

Farmers? club

B>lNabard launched a farmers? club at Sivasagar district recently.

Awareness

The Mizoram government is organising awareness campaigns and workshops for farmers to increase orange production.
