Lawyers skip work

Kokrajhar, March 11: Advocates in Kokrajhar today abstained from work in protest against alleged assaults on lawyers in Jaipur and Chandigarh by police recently. Normal functioning of the court in Kokrajhar was affected because of the lawyers’ strike. The Kokrajhar Bar Association (KBA) members were present in the court but stayed away from attending their duties in support of a nationwide pen-down strike called by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and demanded stern action against the culprits.he secretary of Kokrajhar Bar Association, N.C. Saha, said the association observed a daylong pen-down national strike called by the council today. In Chandigarh lawyers were supporting 20 advocates against whom cases were registered for allegedly manhandling a police officer.

Market blast

Diphu (PTI): Two persons were injured when a crude bomb exploded in a market in Karbi Anglong district on Monday, police said. The bomb, suspected to have been planted by KPLT militants, went off at Doyangmukh Bazaar under Kheroni police station in the district.

Pistol found

Dhubri: Police recovered a pistol buried in a field at Dumordoh village under Gauripur police station of Dhubri district on Sunday night. Villagers while digging the field had found the pistol which was suspected to have been buried by Ulfa, the police said on Monday.

Newborn

Dhubri: Body of newborn wrapped in a bag was recovered near Dhirghat market under Chapor police station of Dhubri district on Sunday night.
