Modi lauds clean initiative

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday interacted with students of Dibrugarh via video-conferencing while launching the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign from New Delhi.

Dibrugarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday interacted with students of Dibrugarh via video-conferencing while launching the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign from New Delhi.

The venue of the interaction was the Ouphulia High School playground in Rajgarh, which was among the 18 locations in the country chosen by Modi for the interaction.

On behalf of the students, Jitumoni Taye, a class XII student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Moran, described the transformation brought by the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan to Ouphulia village.

She told the Prime Minister, who appeared impressed, how the students and the villagers of the area, including women, had joined hands in making Ouphulia the cleanest and most beautiful village in Dibrugarh district.

Jitumoni said school students had participated in the cleanliness drive to make the village clean in every aspect.

She said they would continue the cleanliness drive in other villages as well.

Addressing the students, Modi said the way youngsters have involved themselves in implementing the Swacch Bharat Mission was commendable beyond description.

Appreciating the work of the people in developing Ouphulia as a model village, he said the youths were the catalyst of change in India, and when youth power is involved in any positive work the success attained is manifold.

The Prime Minister said toilets had been set up in every village school because of the involvement of youth to make the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan successful.

"If the youth decides to bring change in society then definitely change will happen," Modi said.

Dibrugarh deputy commissioner Laya Madduri also participated in the programme.
