Imphal, April 11: Lamyanba Pakhang Polo Club had an easy ride to the semi-finals of the 23rd N. Hazari State Polo Tournament by defeating Meiraba Polo Club 12-1 in the quarter-final played at Imphal Pologround here.
In another quarter-final today, Khurai Polo Club edged out Kangchup Road Young Physical and Sporting Association 7-4 to advance into the semi-finals.
Lamyanba Pakhang team captain M. Jawan Singh led from the front, scoring the first goal. P. Ojit Singh netted the second goal for the team. Both the goals were scored in the first chukker.
In the second chukker, O. Rozer of Meiraba Polo Club scored the lone goal for the team. However, it was soon overshadowed by a flurry of goals by the Lamyanba Pakhang team as P. Ojit netted in two, while M. Jawan Singh pushed in one to make the score read 5-1.
In the third chukker, M. Phillip netted one goal, followed by M. Jawan, who scored two more goals to make the score read 8-1.
In the last chukker, Lamyanba hammered the last nails in the Meiraba coffin with M. Doren, M. Jawan, H. Lalit and P. Ojit scoring a goal each.
In the other match, Khurai Polo Club secured a convincing victory against Kangchup Road Young Physical and Sporting Association by 7-4 goals today. Kangchup Road player S. Abungcha netted the first goal from a penalty hit. He fetched another goal soon to consolidate the lead.
However, his team’s joy was shortlived as Th. Kaoba of Khurai club netted two goals to even the score in the first chukker. In the second chukker, Th. Kaoba brought up his third goal of the match. However, the Kangchup found their third goal through P. Bung only to be upstaged in the next moment as Th. Ranjit, Th. Kaoba and T. Roshan netted in a goal each to ensure a 6-3 lead for their team.
In the final chukker, P. Jyotin fetched Khurai Polo Club their seventh goal while H. Muhindro of Kangchup Road netted in a late goal for his team, but their fate was sealed by then.
