Kaavya wins double crown

Kaavya Sawhney of India annexed double crown in the ITF Junior (under-18) World Ranking Tennis Championship that concluded at the All Assam Tennis Association Complex here on Friday.

Guwahati: Kaavya Sawhney of India annexed double crown in the ITF Junior (under-18) World Ranking Tennis Championship that concluded at the All Assam Tennis Association Complex here on Friday.

Kaavya won the girls' singles title defeating Aanya Goel of the US 7-5, 6-1 in the final on Friday. In the semi-finals on Thursday, Kaavya defeated compatriot Chandrika Joshi 6-1, 6-1 while Aanya ousted Indian girl Sudipta Kumar 6-2, 6-2.

Kaavya on Thursday partnered with Prinkle Singh, also of India, to lift the doubles title defeating Bhakti Parwani of India and Jingyi Wang of China 6-3, 6-4 in the final.

Top seed Rishabh Sharda of India lifted the boys' singles crown beating second seed Dev Javia, also of India, in straight sets of 7-5, 7-5. In the round of four on Thursday, Dev got the better of Siddharrth Thakran (India) 6-4, 6-4 while Rishabh prevailed over Krish Patel of India 6-1, 6-1.

Rohan Mehra and Abhishek Shukla of India won the boys' doubles title on Thursday easing past Dharmil Shah and Adarsh Naga Tippabhalta, also of India, 6-4, 6-2.
