Hailakandi, Dec. 23: Junmoni Gogoi of Jorhat emerged women's champion in the 38th inter-district chess championship, organised by Cachar District Chess Association at the indoor stadium of Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar, that concluded last evening.

Cachar district's Suryatapa Banik, Baby Mazumder and Sumati Singha finished second, third and fourth respectively. In the veterans' (above 45 years) category, Protul Gogoi of Jorhat claimed the title while Dhirendra Kumar Roy of Cachar and Rajkumar Nath and Benu Kumar Das of Karimganj got the second, third and fourth positions respectively.

In the age group events, which also concluded yesterday, Neelabhajyoti Gogoi of Jorhat and Priyanka Nag of Cachar won the under-19 boys' and girls' titles. Sandeep Nath of Cachar and Stutironi Gogoi of Jorhat won the under-17 boys' and girls' events. In the under-15 group, Nabayan Das of Karimganj and Komal Lodha of Cachar won the boys' and girls' titles respectively.

In the under-13 category, Anurag Kalita of Darrang and S. Manisha Devi of Cachar won the boys' and girls' titles. Devabarenya Gogoi of Tinsukia and Tanisha A.R. Shome of Jorhat won the under-11 titles. Jitabrata Nath of Sonitpur and Khyaati Srivastava of Kamrup (rural) walked away with the under-9 honours while Vivek Rajkumar of All Assam Chess Association and Baibhabi Baruah of P.C. Baruah Chess Academy, Guwahati, lifted the under-7 boys' and girls' crowns respectively.

The competition for open women, boys and veteran categories got under way today.
