IOCL named best team

Dibrugarh, April 25: The 31st Petroleum Sports Promotion Board Inter-Unit Bridge Tournament came to an end on the Digboi Club premises late on Sunday evening after five days of intense and gruelling bridge.

The results of the tournament:

Team of Four Progressive: Winner IOCL (AOD) C team, comprising A. Chakraborty, S. Dey, P. Purkayastha, A. Roy, I. Rahman and M. Sharma.

First runners-up: IOCL (AOD) A Team.

Second runners-up: ONGC.

Third runners-up: ONGC.

In the master pairs contest, it was a photo finish with only 0.5 points separating the top four pairs: Winners: A.K. Misra and S.C. Sarkar of ONGC.

First runners-up: A. Tosh and S. Datta of BPCL.

Second runners-up: Sailen Gogoi and D.N. Bordoloi of IOCL (AOD).

Third runners-up: Namit Sharma and Alok Kumar of ONGC.

Team of Four: S. Phukan, Ajit K. Barua, P. Roy Choudhury and S.N. Das.

First runners-up: BPCL A team.

Second runners-up: ONGC C team.

Third runners-up: IOCL (AOD) C team.

Based on the team’s performance over the five days of play, the prize for the Overall Best Team went to the hosts IOCL (AOD), while the overall runners-up team prize was bagged by ONGC.

The only individual prize, that of the Best Played Hand, was awarded to Kamakeswar Rai of ONGC in the master pairs event.

The prizes were handed over by S.P. Bordoloi, general manager (i/c) of IOCL (AOD), D.D. Khound, general manager (corporate communications and administration), OIL and R.S. Jadeja, member secretary, PSPB, among others.

The chief tournament director for this tournament was V.K. Sharma of the Assam Bridge Association.

The teams which have participated in the tournament expressed their happiness at the arrangements, including the hospitality at Digboi.
