Agartala: Tripura governor Tathagata Roy on Saturday came out in support of Karnataka governor Vajubhai Vala, saying he "acted in his best conscience", a day BJP's B.S. Yeddyurappa stepped down as Karnataka chief minister before a floor test.

Vala had invited Yeddyurappa to form the government (BJP had 104 MLAs) though the Congress-JD(S) combine has been claimed the support of 117 MLAs.

On the sidelines of the inaugural session of Tripura Nasyacon, organised by state Ayush mission, Roy said, "Vala is acting in his best conscience. That matter as far as I understand is left to the discretion of the governor subject to correction of the Supreme Court." Roy attended the inaugural session of the event, at G.B. Pant Hospital here.

He lauded Ayurveda as a "great inheritance from ancient India" and said it must be researched and developed. "We are fortunate to be living in a state like Tripura where we have a large number of herbs which need to be investigated to find the efficacy of these as drugs," he added.
