Guwahati: A six-member fabrication team consisting of technicians and engineers of GNRC Hospitals, led by its chairman and managing director Dr Nomal Chandra Borah, have conceptualised and designed operation tables for three types of surgeries.

The aim behind the development is to make cost-efficient infrastructure to facilitate affordable healthcare under the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal 3 which is to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all through education, advocacy, actions and societal collaboration.

Borah said the initiative would bring down cost of operation tables by 75 per cent. "General estimated cost of an operation table of different brands ranges from Rs 5 lakh upto Rs 35 lakh.

These operation tables will cost not more than Rs 5 lakh," Borah said.

"These tables would be helpful for spine, brain and heart surgeries. Those are fabricated with stainless steel and assembled hydraulic units sourced with due warranty. The tables are smooth, precise, jerk-free with just a touch of button remote. The neurosurgery operation table is capable of making 16 different movements and the table which will be used for spine surgery is capable of 14 different movements required while performing in operation table," he added.

Borah said this initiative is first of its kind in India and GNRC Hospitals is ready to cater to the need of other hospitals.
